HomeCrew shows you the home contractors people you know have actually used. This page says what we collect and what we do with it, in plain terms.
Your contacts' names and photos never leave your phone.
If you turn on contact sync, the phone numbers in your address book are scrambled on your device before anything is sent. What we receive is a scrambled code, not the number itself — we never receive your contacts' actual phone numbers, and we do not try to recover them. We compare the scrambled values against those of people who already use HomeCrew, and a match tells us two accounts know each other. Numbers belonging to people who have never joined HomeCrew match nothing, and we do nothing else with them — though if that person joins later, the match happens then.
We keep that scrambled list. Some apps send contacts, match, and discard them. We are being deliberately clear that we do not: keeping the list is what lets your friends stay connected if you reinstall the app or move to a new phone, instead of asking for your address book again every time. It is deleted when you deactivate your account.
Names shown beside matched contacts come from your own address book, read on your device. We never see them. You can use HomeCrew without contact sync — you will see contractors reviewed by people near you rather than by people you know.
To show you contractors your friends trust, to run the app, to keep it safe, and to fix problems when something breaks. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
We use service providers for communications and hosting, security and fraud prevention, technical support, and tracking and reporting usage, who are bound to protect your data.
Photos you upload are checked automatically by third-party moderation services (currently Google) before they are shown. They are not used to train anything.
You can deactivate your account from your Profile at any time. When you do, we erase your phone number, your personal details, your scrambled contact list, and your friend connections.
Reviews you wrote stay published, shown as "A neighbor" with your name removed. Other people relied on them when choosing a contractor, and quietly withdrawing them would change decisions that were already made. If you want anything else removed, email hello@homecrew.app and we will do it by hand.
You must be 18 or older to use HomeCrew.
If we change this policy, the date at the top changes with it. Anything material will be surfaced in the app rather than left here to be discovered.
